Graduation Roundup

So I graduated. It was really kind of moving in a way I didn't expect. Everyday I realize a little more how much I really, really love being a Terp and how happy I am to have been a part of everything I have been here. I have a little bit in terms of plans for the future. To catch up:

I had a great experience working on Permanent Collection and I learned a lot about myself and about how I want to approach the process. There are some great people at RHT and working in the area and I was excited about getting into it all.

After that I ASMed a world-premiere opera called Shadowboxer. I cultivated some skills I didn't think I had in me, and I did have some rewarding experiences with a few people. But on the whole I finished the process feeling really exhausted. Opera was hard for me in a big way, so I was glad to get back to theatre.

I spent a couple weeks with Gilgamesh tech at UMD just observing Cary in a production management capacity. It was really cool to just watch tech happen and it reminded me, as always, that it was my favorite part of the process.

I'm finishing up a paid gig at Round House running crew for Around the World in 80 Days. They asked me back after Permanent Collection and it's been really great. It's a physically difficult show to run, but it's good people and decent money.

After 80 days I'm going to Deep Creek with some Theatre friends, then working on moving home, getting CPR/AED re-certified, and doing a massive resume mailing to DC theatres for fall work.

I start stage managing for the Maryland Shakespeare Festival at the end of June. They tour the state of Maryland and I'm really excited and nervous to learn about touring on a smaller scale. I don't have to do overnights, for the most part, so I don't have to go through the personal discomfort side of things.

I also am sort of realizing that it's been four years since I graduated from high school and that feels a lot more intense than graduating from college. I feel like I haven't been in school at all.
